Julio Gálvez (1998)

He is born in Santiago de Chile, in 1949. Between 1973 and 1995, he lives in Castelldefels, Barcelona. In 1990, he receives the first prize at the "Sant Jordi, Narrativa Castellana" award for the story “Los muertos no se venden”. In 1998, he gets the first prize at the international contest convoked by the Pablo Neruda Foundation, for his biographical essay “Neruda, Testigo Ardiente de una Epoca”. The next year, he takes part in the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Winnipeg’s arrival, hosted by the Spain Cultural Centre in Chile. He is co-author of the poetic-musical work “Neruda Vuelve a la Casa de las Flores”, premiered in June 2001 in the same “Casa de las Flores” (Flowers’ House) of the Argüelles neighbourhood in Madrid where the poet lived. Julio Gávez has given lectures and conferences on several issues related to Neruda in Chile, Spain and Sweden. He has also published articles on these subjects. In 2003, for his work “Neruda: Aunque Nadie Recuerde”, he was the first finalist for the "Así fue: La historia rescatada 2002" prize, given by Plaza & Janés Publishers. The same year, for his essay “El Aporte del Exilio”, he gets an honorific award at the Spain Cultural Centre’s contest "Premio José Nuez Martín".
